Møysalen National Park: The Crown Jewel of Vesterålen

Møysalen national park, the monarch of Vesterålen, stands as the tallest mountain in this region, proudly reaching an elevation of 1,263 meters above sea level. It even surpasses the grandeur of the Lofoten mountains. This mountain, where the adventure begins, offers an unforgettable experience.

The starting point for this exciting journey is located in Kaljord, and the trail follows the shoreline, guided by the call of the fjord, before embarking on the challenging ascent. Møysalen offers a mountain hike that stands out with its unique landscape and demanding terrain. For those seeking a more guided experience, there are guided tours available as well.

With a total round trip length of 22 km, this journey typically requires a full day. However, for the experienced and physically fit, Møysalen can be conquered in fewer hours. South of the mountain’s peak, you’ll find the majestic glacier Fonnisen, adding an extra layer of beauty to this mountain paradise.

Among all the mountain hikes in Vesterålen, Møysalen reigns unchallenged as the undisputed king.

Important!

While the maps are based on real GPS tracks, please note that their primary purpose is to provide a starting point and approximate route for the trip, rather than precise positioning. The accuracy of maps and GPS may also vary slightly.

You are always responsible for making your own judgments when venturing into the mountains, taking the current conditions into account. It’s crucial to ensure you have appropriate footwear for the conditions and that you bring an adequate supply of food and water for your journey.

It is also important to check the local weather forecast in advance.
