About the Sandhornet hike

On the Sandhornet hike, you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view over a large part of Salten, a majestic experience that becomes even more enchanting on clear days. Sandhornet is not only one of the most prominent mountain peaks in the area but also a well-known landmark visible all the way from Bodø. The mountain has several routes to the top, but the recommended and most marked trail for less experienced hikers begins at Horsdal.

The trail starts down by the sea and leads you up through the scenic Stjerndalen, along the Stjernelva river. Here, the path can be steep at times, but it gradually levels out and may become somewhat less distinct. The final hundred meters up to the summit are primarily a stone scree, which, of course, rewards you with a outstanding view of the Gildeskål archipelago as a fitting thank you for your efforts.

The Sandhornet hike is not only a fantastic way to spend a day in nature but also an opportunity to experience exceptional natural beauty and savor the majestic landscapes the region has to offer. The view from the top will fill you with awe and provide you with memories that will last a lifetime, making it undoubtedly one of the most impressive mountain experiences in the Salten area.

Important!

While the maps are based on real GPS tracks, please note that their primary purpose is to provide a starting point and approximate route for the trip, rather than precise positioning. The accuracy of maps and GPS may also vary slightly.

You are always responsible for making your own judgments when venturing into the mountains, taking the current conditions into account. It’s crucial to ensure you have appropriate footwear for the conditions and that you bring an adequate supply of food and water for your journey.

It is also important to check the local weather forecast in advance.
